Mumsnet help us raise awareness of a lifesaving meningitis vaccine

Mumsnet is featuring Meningitis Research Foundation as a guest campaign to raise awareness of the MenACWY vaccine.

The MenACWY vaccination programme was introduced in 2015 following a rapid rise in a new and particularly deadly type of meningitis – meningococcal W meningitis and septicaemia (MenW).

Parents of anyone who has just received their A-level results should book them an appointment for their MenACWY vaccine as soon as possible.

University freshers are particularly at risk of meningitis and septicaemia because they mix with so many other students, some of whom are unknowingly carrying the bacteria. They should get their vaccine at least two weeks before term starts, but this year’s school leavers are advised to get the free vaccine whether starting university or not.
