Meningitis and recovery

Thankfully, many people who have meningitis have recovered. But recovery can bring its own challenges and it's important to understand that it can be a long process.

In these videos, we hear from people who have recovered from meningitis and their family members. Find out what the recovery process has been like for them.

Meningitis and limb loss: adapting your life

Limb loss is a potential effect of sepsis. Some people who become ill with meningitis also get sepsis, as both meningitis and sepsis are caused by the same bacteria and meningitis can develop into sepsis rapidly.

Limb loss can, and does, have significant implications for people's day-to-day life. In these videos, Charlotte, Mike, Harmonie-Rose, Isabelle and Ellie share how they adapted to life after limb loss.

Growing up with limb loss: Ellie’s story

We join Ellie Challis, Paralympic swimmer and Meningitis Flag supporter, at her training pool in Manchester. She shares her experience of growing up with limb loss and her journey to becoming a Paralympic gold medallist.

How to adapt to life after limb loss (part 2)

Mike and Charlotte share more tips and advice on living with limb loss caused by meningitis.

Meningitis and grief

Bereavement because of meningitis is still too common. Meningitis progresses fast, so those affected are often not prepared for the shock and grief that comes from losing someone close to them.

In these videos, people who have experienced bereavement because of meningitis share their stories, to help others who may be experiencing something similar feel less alone.

Meningitis and mental health

Any trauma or difficult period in life can be a challenge. Surviving a serious illness like meningitis is no different. Physical trials are often the focus but the effect on mental health can be just as challenging.

In these videos, Gemma, Charlotte and more share how they’ve managed their mental health as they dealt with the impact of meningitis.

Mental health, meningitis and time outside

Rosanna led our ‘Meningitis and me’ project. In this video she describes how spending time outside and noting the changing of the seasons helps her to manage her mental health.
