Kallie power
Kallie developed bacterial meningitis and sepsis when she was 5 weeks old … she had gotten late onset group strep b infection which she picked up in labour…

at 5 weeks old she became pale and sleepy she also had a high temperature I rang my go who saw her straight away and thought maybe it was a uti , she was also refusing her feeds and had vomited up her last feed, when we had gotten to hospital she had mottled skin and was moaning along with a high pitched cry…

when a dr examined her they said she wasn’t in a stable enough condition to do a lumber puncture but they would treat her with 5 different antibiotics one of which was for bacterial meningitis I never in my wildest dreams thought it would be…

the next day after nearly 24 hours on the antibiotics they done a lumbar puncture which came back positive for sepsis and bacterial meningitis we were heartbroken…

after 4 weeks of an iv antibiotics and numerous scans and tests Kallie came home a happy and healthy baby we still don’t know if the meningitis has caused her and damage but so far she has hit all milestones and she is the most content happy little thing and we are blessed . Although we are still recovering mentally from the trauma we were one of the lucky ones
