Chris Johnson

I was 7, it was 1956. I was living in Gloucestershire near Bristol.

One morning I woke with a most awful headache and very ill. I was in a bad way. I can still remember being rushed by ambulance to Frenchay Hospital.

At first they feared I had polio and recall getting a lumbar injection. I was confined to an isolation ward for a month.

"I’m thankful I survived when it could all have been so different."

Meningitis I guess then was pretty limited in its knowledge but I made a full recovery although it put me behind at school. I did ok at school eventually and ended up with an enjoyable career as a journalist & PR manager.

I’m thankful I survived when it could all have been so different.
