Patron Michael Rosen presents Radio 4 Appeal on behalf of MRF

With its first broadcast on Sunday 2nd September, the BBC Radio Four charitable appeal for the week will be presented by patron, author and poet Michael Rosen, on behalf of MRF.

A familiar voice to BBC Radio 4 listeners, Michael will be appealing for support for our latest research looking into vaccinating expectant mothers in the Gambia to protect babies from meningitis.

The appeal is scheduled for broadcast at the following times:

  • Sun 2 Sep 2018 - 07:54
  • Sun 2 Sep 2018 - 21:26
  • Thu 6 Sep 2018 - 15:27

Michael has a very personal reason for supporting the work of MRF. Michael has faced every parent's worst nightmare when his son, Eddie, died of meningitis aged just 18 in 1999.

“When you can put your kid to bed at night and they are dead in the morning, it’s like fiction. It’s so terrible.” - Michael Rosen

Since Eddie's death, Michael has worked to raise awareness of the disease and help find solutions to bring about MRF's vision of a world free from meningitis - a disease which currently affect 2.8 million people globally every year.
