MRF project saving lives in Malawi

A project funded by MRF and the Scottish Government is saving lives in Malawi, according to a report from Voice of America (VOA).

The report, entitled Red Means Go at Pediatric Wards in Southern Malawi, details the way that the Meningitis Research Foundation funded and managed project has revolutionised the way sick children are identified in clinics in the African country.

Using phone app technology, health care workers are now able to work out quickly and efficiently which of the huge number of children they are presented with need the most immediate attention.

This seemingly simple idea has led to thousands of young lives being saved from diseases like meningitis in the overcrowded clinics of Malawi.

The report quotes a health care worker as saying, "“Children are no longer dying in line while waiting for treatment. I won’t say it has reduced because that would mean it is still happening…IT HAS STOPPED COMPLETELY”
