More than 150 students from 13 universities around the UK and Ireland took part in London’s biggest street collection to raise funds for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 of April.
MRF’s ‘London Loot’ has established itself as one of the biggest student fundraising events in the country, and London’s biggest student mega-raid. The team takes over the city of London - underground and over ground - in an assortment of fancy dress costumes for two days to ask Londoners to help defeat meningitis.
The 2019 collection raised an amazing £48,000 in just 48 hours.
Ian Beningfield, Head of Fundraising at MRF, said, “Thank you to each and every student who helped us collect these vital funds. We are extremely grateful for their support and thank you to everyone who so generously donated.
“Teenagers and young adults are at higher risk of getting meningitis than other age groups. It is easier for the bugs to spread amongst students because they live and study in such close proximity to each other for long periods. It’s great to see university fundraising groups joining forces in London’s biggest event of its kind to help us defeat meningitis.
“The money raised during London Loot will help us to continue funding vital scientific research and to promote education and awareness of meningitis and septicaemia. It will also help us to keep supporting individuals and families affected by these awful diseases, whether they are living with impairment caused by the diseases or coping with the death of a loved one.”
