London’s biggest student street collection will help defeat meningitis
  • Over 150 student fundraisers will be on the streets of London raising vital funds for Meningitis Research Foundation
  • Students in fancy dress from 10 different universities around the country convene for 48 hours of bucket collecting mayhem
  • Running totals will be released over two days
  • Help us beat last year’s total of nearly £49,000

Over 150 students from 10 universities around the country will take part in London’s biggest street collection to raise funds for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF).

MRF’s ‘London Loot’ has established itself as one of the biggest student fundraising events in the country, and London’s biggest student megaraid, attracting volunteers from across the UK. The team takes over the city of London – underground and over ground – for two days to ask Londoners to help defeat meningitis.

Last year’s London Loot raised almost £49,000 in under 48 hours.

The money raised during London Loot will help fund research and promote education and awareness of meningitis and septicaemia. It will also be used to provide direct support to people affected, including families who have lost loved ones and survivors who had to have limbs amputated.

"It’s great to see university fundraising groups joining forces in London’s biggest event of its kind to help us defeat meningitis. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support.” - Rob Dawson, MRF

Rob Dawson, Director of Support for Meningitis Research Foundation, said: “Teenagers and young adults are at higher risk of getting meningitis than other age groups. It is easier for the bugs to spread amongst students because they live and study in such close proximity to each other for long periods. It’s great to see university fundraising groups joining forces in London’s biggest event of its kind to help us defeat meningitis. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support.”

Look out for our fundraisers in London on Tuesday April 10th and Wednesday April 11th 2018 and give generously to help us smash last year’s total of nearly £49,000.

Why we work with students
Why we work with students
If you are a student then meningitis matters to you. As the second biggest at-risk group of contracting meningitis, after babies and toddlers, it is vital that you are aware of the symptoms of this deadly disease, and know about the life-saving vaccines that are available to you.
