Thornbury Christmas Craft Fair

Thornbury Christmas Craft Fair

11 November 2013

Meningitis Research Foundation Ambassador Christine Carter will be holding her Christmas Craft Fair at the Swan Inn, Thornbury on Saturday 23 November from 10am to 3pm – free entry.

Money raised from the event will be donated to MRF who have supported Christine since she contracted Group A streptococcal septicaemia on New Year’s Eve 2010, resulting in amputations of her legs below the knees and many fingers.

Chris and her daughter Lindsey Benson established their popular local craft fairs in March 2012 and have held 4 previous fairs raising over £5,000 for MRF.

Chris said: “After I had septicaemia in 2010 and lost my legs and most of my hands, Lindsey and I decided we wanted to raise money into much needed research so we set about organising some craft fairs. The fairs have become well established within the local crafting community and tables sell out very quickly and we have a waiting list of those wishing to sign up. It’s an ideal way of showcasing local talent (they must live within 10 miles of Thornbury or have personal experience of meningitis or septicaemia) and supporting a good cause and we are delighted that the Christmas Fair will have over thirty crafters exhibiting their high quality handmade products."

“The fairs also give us an opportunity to make people more aware of Meningitis and Septicaemia and how quickly they strike and can be mistaken for milder illnesses like flu in the winter.”

An affordable art sale will also be held on the day with up to 30 local artists donating pictures to raise additional funds.

Chris Head, Chief Executive of MRF said: “Chris sadly has firsthand experience of how quickly meningitis and septicaemia can strike and how difficult they are to diagnose and treat. The craft fairs that she and Lindsey have organised in the past two years have raised a huge amount of money which has helped us to continue to fund our vital work into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia”

If anyone would like to donate a prize for the raffle or tombola please contact Christine on Thornbury-craft-fair @hotmail.co.uk
