MRF members head to Westminster to ensure Meningitis Matters
11 December 2012
Over 30 members of Meningitis Research Foundation are heading to Westminster today for Meningitis Matters.
The aim of ‘Meningitis Matters’ is to raise awareness of meningitis and septicaemia with MPs and to ensure that tackling the diseases remains a top public health priority while the current NHS reforms are implemented.
MPs are meeting constituents to discuss their personal experience of the disease and being asked to sign a pledge calling on the Government to:
- Introduce new vaccines that prevent meningitis onto the national immunisation schedule as soon as they become available
- Develop in partnership with patient groups communication strategies to raise awareness of the importance of meningitis and the need for vaccination
- Provide good quality integrated support and aftercare for those left with disabilities and debilitating after-effects
Later in the day members will join other MPs and Lords, alongside health professionals and scientists at a reception to hear from Dr Hilary Jones (Patron of MRF) and Linda Roberts (mother of Jonnie Peacock – Paralympic T4 100m champion).Find out more about Meningitis MattersRead our blog from the day
