MRF Ambassador holds ball in memory of husband

28 September 2012

Tickets are still available for a ball being held by MRF Ambassador Karen Felimond (from Nuneaton) in memory of her husband Marcel.

The red carpet Hollywood style event will be held at the Mercure Brandon Hall Hotel and Spa (which the company is providing free of charge) and will take place on Friday 5th October from 7.30pm.

The mother of Alexander (7) and Thomas (5) lost her husband Marcel Felimond to meningitis in December 2009. Karen (40) said: “Marcel was rushed to hospital on Boxing Day suffering from symptoms including a severe fever and sickness but we all thought he had the flu. A few hours later I was informed he had passed away. At that moment my world fell apart. How was I going to tell our two little boys, who were sleeping when the ambulance left the house, that daddy has gone to heaven? In a matter of hours my fit healthy, gym-going husband had been taken away from me by a disease I did not even know existed in adults.”

Since the death of Marcel who taught languages at Sidney Stringer School in Coventry, Karen has been involved in raising funds for MRF and to date has raised more than £11,000 in his memory.

Chris Head, Chief Executive of MRF said: “Karen sadly has firsthand experience of how quickly meningitis and septicaemia can strike and how difficult they are to diagnose and treat. Her fundraising efforts in the past and the money she hopes to raise at her Hollywood Ball next week will make a huge difference to the work we do as we rely heavily on voluntary donations from our members, the general public and businesses throughout the UK.”

Tickets for the Hollywood Charity Ball are only £35.00 per person or £350.00 for a table of ten and include:
  • Welcome cocktails and canapés
  • A delicious three course meal
  • A live band and dancing
  • Luxury auction
  • Guests will be given a luxury Spa Gift bag which has been donated by Decleor.
For those who want to make the evening extra special the 4* Mercure Brandon Hall Hotel are offering anyone attending the ball the opportunity to stay overnight for a mere £15 per couple including breakfast.
