Bagging a Bargain

Bagging a Bargain

05 March 2014

Huge thanks to Irish member Rosemarie O’Leary who organised our first ever designer handbag sale, Handbags for Jessica and raised an amazing €17,195 (£14,329) in memory of her baby daughter who died from pneumococcal meningitis at the age of five weeks in February 2007.

Top designer brands Burberry, Chloe, DKNY, Fendi, Furla, Gucci, Michael Kors, Miu Miu, Mulberry and Prada were among the “gently used” bags on sale plus opportunities to bid for a Chanel handbag and win a new DVF clutch bag or new Ralph Lauren shoulder bag.

RTE One television and radio presenter Claire Byrne made a guest appearance at the sale last Saturday (1 March) which was sponsored by Fidelity Worldwide Investments and held in Cliff Town House, Dublin. In addition to the 131 bags on sale, 525 raffle tickets were sold, 300 canapés eaten and 126 glasses of bubbly served.

Rosemarie O’Leary said: “We are delighted to be able to help raise funding. Even if it saves just one child because our support means more copies of the charity’s free diagnosis pack is available, it will all have been worthwhile.”

Ireland Manager and Deputy Chief Executive of Meningitis Research Foundation, Diana McConnell, adds: “We are delighted with the amazing success of Handbags for Jessica. Congratulations to Rosemarie and her friends for organising such a unique and exciting event and to everyone who bagged a bargain on the day.”
