I had just turned 5 when my parents faced the ordeal of hearing that I had meningococcal group C- a bacterial form of meningitis. Long story cut short- I was left with a long term problem with my left eye (I had a squint...an operation to correct this didn't work, but wearing glasses has solved the problem). My left eye is still weaker 16 years on, but I am one of the lucky ones. I survived the disease.
