My name is Daron Boyd and I have just been diagnosed for the fourth time I am 53 and this time I have viral but I have had bacterial at age 4,19, 28, and now at 53 does anyone know why? Local doctors do not know why and the last two times Doctors did not want to test just said I had flue or head ache. This time the doctor said if I wanted a spinal tap I had to request which I did. If anyone has insight please respond

Hi Daron. I read once that there was a genetic link to meningitis meaning that some people were more suseptible to contracting the disease than others. I am interested in this area as I had bacterial at 1 1/2 years old but survived unharmed, but unfortunatlely when my son contracted the disease 7 years ago age 2 he died from the disease. I was keen to know if there was a link genetically and this is what I have found- its to do with Factor H. I think that there is a test that can be carried out to determine. I hopr this helps.
