The Global Meningococcal Initiative (GMI) is an international group of scientists, clinicians and public health officials. The GMI was formed in 2009. It aims to help prevent invasive meningococcal disease by working together to build a body of scientific literature which supports increased education, research and collaboration worldwide.
Meningococcal bacteria are the main cause of life-threatening bacterial meningitis and sepsis across the world.
Meningitis Research Foundation was a founding partner of the GMI and sits on its steering group. Our role is to connect the GMI’s research with those who will directly benefit from the findings – patients, families and caregivers.
Meningitis Research Foundation is delighted to have partnered with GMI for over 15 years, supporting the research published by the Initiative’s members to reach the communities and people who can use and apply the findings, so they directly help patients and their families across the world.Vinny Smith, Meningitis Research Foundation Chief Executive and GMI steering group member
