The Global Road Map to Defeat Meningitis by 2030

The WHO’s guidelines for meningitis diagnosis, treatment and care

The WHO’s guidelines for meningitis diagnosis, treatment and care

An overview of the first ever global guidelines developed for meningitis diagnosis, treatment and care.

In April 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) took a critical step in the journey to defeat meningitis. They published the first ever global guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with acute, community-acquired meningitis.

The guidelines contribute to a number of the visionary goals set out within the WHO’s Global Road Map to Defeat Meningitis by 2030. They are a clinical tool designed for healthcare workers and technical experts to improve access to care, with a particular focus on low-resource settings. However, their publication is also an important tool for global advocacy to defeat meningitis.

Find out more about the launch of the guidelines on WHO’s website and read our quick-read below for more information.
