In late December 1989, Bruce Langoulant’s six-month-old daughter Ashleigh was fighting for her life as she battled pneumococcal meningitis. Bruce and his family, like many others in similar situations, were frustrated with the lack of information available and the overall lack of awareness about meningitis, meningococcal disease and pneumococcal disease. Three years later, in 1992, Bruce, along with health care professionals and families with similar experiences, established Meningitis Centre Australia (MCA).
MCA is a not-for-profit organisation based in Perth, WA, and is the only organisation of its kind in Australia. Our aim is to raise awareness, educate, advocate, and provide support for meningitis, meningococcal disease, pneumococcal disease, and related diseases.
