Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance

An overview of the partnership and its role in defeating meningitis.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a global health partnership. Its aim is to help countries to strengthen their healthcare systems and improve access to life-saving vaccines. These vaccines protect against over twenty life-threatening diseases, including meningitis.

The partnership supports the WHO’s Global Road Map to Defeat Meningitis by 2030, focusing on three key areas, referred to as pillars: prevention and epidemic control, diagnosis and treatment and disease surveillance.

In the lead-up to World Meningitis Day 2024 and 2025, Gavi’s Vaccines Work platform featured a series of articles about meningitis. The series covers key topics, like living with the long-term effects of meningitis and the life-saving role of vaccines. It also showcases personal stories from our digital collection Meningitis in your words.
