Charity auction – VIP Westlife tickets
12 February 2008
Irish pop superstars Westlife have donated four VIP tickets to their Wembley Arena concert on Friday, 28 March to national charity Meningitis Research Foundation. The tickets will be auctioned on eBay from Saturday, 16 February and close on 26 February. All proceeds will be donated to the Foundation.
The successful bidder will go backstage to meet Shane, Nicky, Kian and Mark before watching the concert from VIP seats from the band's personal allocation.
Westlife became involved with the charity when Shane and Nicky met young Foundation member Lydia Cross at the 2007 Pride of Britain Awards. Lydia was receiving a Child of Courage award for battling back after contracting meningococcal disease at the age of three, which resulted in her having to have both her legs amputated. So impressed were the boys by Lydia's bubbly and positive nature and her work in campaigning for the Foundation, they wanted to know how they could help. And with infants and under fives most at risk from meningitis and septicaemia - the blood poisoning form of the disease - the cause also struck a particular chord with Nicky and Shane, themselves the parents of young children.
Foundation spokesperson Kirsten Appleton says: "This is a fantastic opportunity to see one of the best pop acts around whilst supporting a good cause. The chance to meet the band is a dream come true for any Westlife fan."
The money raised from the auction will help Meningitis Research Foundation's fight against meningitis and septicaemia. The Foundation funds research into meningitis and septicaemia, provides support for those affected, and raises awareness about the diseases.
