Early Management of Meningococcal Disease in Children

'Early Management of Meningococcal Disease in Children', an algorithm for identifying management priorities in treating children with meningococcal disease, has been reviewed in this week's Archives of Disease in Childhood.
 
The protocol, now in its 5th edition, is produced and distributed by Meningitis Research Foundation. To date over 50,000 copies of the algorithm have been disseminated to A&E departments, ICUs and paediatric units in the UK.

What progress is being made?

Since it was founded in 1989, the charity has awarded 122 research grants, leading to many advances in the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia. The total value of the Foundation's investment in vital scientific research is nearly £13.5/€19 million.
