New chairman of Scientific Advisory Panel

Meningitis Research Foundation is delighted to welcome Professor George Griffin as the new chair of its Scientific Advisory Panel.

Professor Griffin is a trained scientist and clincian having worked at Harvard Medical School and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. He is currently Professor of Infectious Diseseases and Clinical Medicine at St George's Hospital Medical School and has a great deal of experience on the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council and Department of Health grants committees.

Professor Griffin is a practising clinician and has research interests in how the body and cells react to infection, and has founded the St George's Vaccine Institute designed for human vaccine experimentation.

What progress is being made?

Since it was founded in 1989, the charity has awarded 122 research grants, leading to many advances in the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia. The total value of the Foundation's investment in vital scientific research is nearly £13.5/€19 million.
