30 seconds to save lives

02 January 2003

Meningits Research Foundation, together with Patron Dr Hilary Jones, is aiming to save lives this winter with 30 second TV and radio messages being launched on Friday 3 January 2003.

The messages focus on the speed with which meningitis and septicaemia, the blood poisoning form of the disease, develop and urges the public to call the Foundation's Freefone 24 hour helpline - 080 8800 3344 - in the UK, LoCall 1890 41 33 44 in the Republic of Ireland, for their FREE pack of symptoms information.

Said Hilary Jones: "I am delighted to be working with Meningitis Research Foundation. As a GP and parent, I know just how important it is to know the symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia and to act quickly in order for lives to be saved."

Denise Vaughan, Chief Executive of Meningitis Research Foundation said: "The Foundation supports many families who have experienced the devastation of meningitis and septicaemia. Through this new campaign we hope that lives will be saved as early diagnosis and prompt treatment really do give the best chances for a good recovery."

As well as raising awareness Meningitis Research Foundation is calling on the public for help. In order to fund vital scientific research, support those already affected and continue to raise awareness, we need help.
