Vote For Thinking Ahead: A National Programme for Neurological Care in Ireland

Vote For Thinking Ahead: A National Programme for Neurological Care in Ireland

28 June 2010

MRF, as members of the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI), support the Alliance's campaign for a national programme for neurological care in Ireland.

The NAI write, "Ireland is at the bottom of the league in Europe for many aspects of neurological care. We have the lowest ratio of neurologists and consultants in neurorehabilitation per head of population, we continue to lack many neurospecialist services and there are long waiting lists for those services that are available. Critically, there is no overall plan within our health system to invest in and develop neurological care , despite the fact that over 700,000 people in this country (17% of the population) are living with neurological conditions such as migraine, stroke, dementia, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, acquired brain injury and Parkinson’s disease.

Neurological care will continue to be neglected in this country as long as it is a low priority area for the health service.

The Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) is the umbrella group for organisations working with people with neurological conditions.

The NAI and its members groups are calling for a national programme for neurological care which will require the HSE to publish and implement its own recommendations for investing in and improving services for people with neurological conditions.

We urgently need your support. Please sign our petition to help us campaign for a National Programme for Neurological Care."

From Tuesday, 29 June you can visit www.nai.ie to give your support to the “Thinking Ahead” campaign for a National Programme for Neurological Care.
