Prestigious award for dedicated MRF Ambassador

Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) is very proud of Scottish Ambassador Michael Pattie who has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to charity in Dumfries & Galloway.

Michael’s son David sadly died from meningitis and septicaemia at the age of 13 in 1999 and he has worked tirelessly to raise funds and awareness in his memory.

“ I would give back all my achievements in an instant just to see Dave again.”

Michael said, “I would have to say I feel both proud and humbled. I am so proud to be a Scottish Ambassador for MRF and hopefully this award will continue to keep our profile to the fore.

"It goes without saying that I would give back all my achievements in an instant just to see Dave again.

However, I guess so much good has come from what happened and I feel therefore I have turned the worst nightmare on its head in a way.

"I also feel that this recognition belongs to my wife Patsy, our team and fabulous community as much as it does to me but together we have perhaps made a difference to many people.”
