Our 25th anniversary walk started today
23 May 2014
Our 25th Anniversary Walk has started.
Led by charity Chief Executive Christopher Head and other senior staff, the eight day challenge covers 100km of the beautiful Peak District National Park connecting two landmark buildings in the history of meningitis and septicaemia – Sheffield University and the National Meningitis Reference Laboratories in Manchester.
Around 100 members and supporters are walking with us over the eight days and hoping to raise a minimum of £100 each in sponsorship.
The walk passes through many historic towns and villages: Hope, Bamford, Hathersage, Bakewell, Buxton, Edale and Glossop and will end with a research Discovery Day at where walkers will be offered a guided tour around the MRF Genome Library project – a world first in medical research.
Christopher Head, CEO of Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) said: “This is a great way of marking our 25th anniversary; sharing a fundraising challenge with supporters and members who have helped us achieve so much since 1989. We have invested over £17m/ €20.4m in research projects, issue around 1m pieces of life saving information to the public and health professionals every year and have provided information and support to thousands of families.”
If you are inspired by our walkers and would like to make a donation, please donate here.
