Oundle v Uppingham – Old Boys rugby match in memory of Thommy
12 April 2010
Oundle and Uppingham schools fought it out in a charity rugby match on 9 April at Richmond Rugby Club in memory of Oundle schoolgirl Thommy Purbrook who tragically lost her life to meningitis in 2008.
Over 350 supporters turned out for the Old Boys match. Oundle and Uppingham are fierce rivals, so the contest was always going to be close with both sides desperate to win. In a highly competitive game Oundle eventually triumphed by 47-31.
Proceeds from ticket sales, player sponsorship and a prize auction at the match will go towards the Challenge for Thommy appeal to set up a scholarship at Oundle school in Thommy’s memory, and to support MRF.
We’d like to thank the organisers, players, sponsors, and everyone who supported the Old Boys match. Money is still being counted, but it looks like the match raised about £15k towards the Challenge For Thommy total of £100k.
The match is over but the Challenge is ongoing. In June, four friends including Thommy's brother Barnabas will take on the Arch to Arc Challenge in the hope of reaching their goal of £100k in sponsorship. Find out more and support them here.
