MRF's biennial conference - Meningitis and Septicaemia in Children and Adults on 11 - 12 November welcomed speakers and delegates from around the world to the Royal Society of Medicine, London. Over 250 delegates presented and discussed state-of-the-art topics of global interest in the field of prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia.

Speakers from major domestic and international research institutions, agencies, and pharmaceutical companies attended to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Foundation. MRF brought together internationally renowned experts presenting on a wide-range of topics: current and future prevention strategies for pneumococcus, meningococcus, and Hib as well as issues in clinical management of meningitis and sepsis, including neonatal meningitis. A poster exhibition featured a record-breaking 60 entries represented a real showcase for talent and the results of cutting edge research. Delegates were treated to three 'satellite sessions' - lectures sponsored by pharmaceutical companies -  exhibitions, and an evening wine reception.

Harpinder Collacott - MRF Head of Communications and Campaigns says: "The 2009 conference was a fantastic success - the speakers were exciting and informative - really bringing their subject matter to life - and delegates really enjoyed the variety of the poster exhibition. I came back feeling that we're really making progress in the fight against meningitis and septicaemia, and extra motivated by the atmosphere of dilligence and positivity throughout the conference."
