10 November 2009
On 11 November, Meningitis Research Foundation opens a two-day international
conference at the Royal Society of Medicine, London, helping to mark
the 20th anniversary of the charity’s fight against meningitis and
septicaemia.
The conference – Meningitis and Septicaemia in Children and Adults –
brings together internationally renowned experts presenting on a wide
range of topics, from current and future prevention strategies for
different strains of meningitis, to issues in clinical management of
the diseases, including meningitis in very young children. Over 250
delegates will attend, and the conference will provide an opportunity
for experts to share state-of-the-art knowledge and progress on topics
of global interest, and forge new collaborations.
Over 60 scientific posters submitted by national and international
organisations will be displayed during the conference, presenting the
latest advances in research and progress in the prevention, detection
and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia.
Christopher Head, MRF CEO, says: “MRF’s conference brings together
world renowned experts in meningitis – the only one of its kind. A
number of them will present the latest developments in medical research
to better diagnose, manage and treat these deadly diseases. A great
deal of the advances being presented over the next two days have been
funded by Meningitis Research Foundation through our annual research
round.”
