Major research funding boost

We believe that scientific research holds the key to our vision of a world free from meningitis and septicaemia.

Our programme of research into the prevention, detection and treatment of the diseases represent the largest research commitment of any meningitis charity by far.

As part of that committed we are delighted to announce the addition of new projects to our programme.

Spanning the globe, the projects aim to produce results in immediate problem areas.

An in-depth study of genes involved with the susceptibility and the severity of meningococcal disease in children

Examination of two meningococcal surface proteins as potential vaccine targets

Measuring immunity to meningococcal Y and W135 bacteria in England and Wales

Recognition and action towards meningitis amongst patients, their families and health providers in Blantyre, Malawi

Development of a molecular biology tool based algorithm to improve the diagnosis in the African Meningitis Belt
