Lincoln company raising funds for MRF after customers’ daughter died from the disease

Running Imp, a family-run business in Lincoln, has selected Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) as its Charity of the Year. Running Imp supplies event organisers with everything they could need from running event equipment to signage and trophies.

Regular customers at Running Imp are Alan and Ruth Glynn from Perth in Scotland, who sadly lost their daughter Alexis Rose at just 19 months of age from meningitis in 2011. Alan and Ruth have been raising money for MRF ever since and organise the Alexis Rose Trail Race in her memory.

Chris Illsley, Chief Executive of Running Imp said, “We are proud to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2017 is Meningitis Research Foundation. We’ll be donating money from the sale of medals and company fundraising projects. We’ve got to know Alan and Ruth well over the years. We were touched by their fundraising efforts in memory of their daughter and while we’ve supported all their events to date, we’re now delighted to help raise even more funds for the charity.”

Ian Beningfield, Head of Fundraising at MRF said, “We’re very grateful to Running Imp for choosing us as their charity of the year and to Alan and Ruth for their continued support. Meningitis and septicaemia can strike quickly, sometimes killing in hours, and leaving some survivors with life-changing after effects. The money raised will help us to fund vital scientific research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis, raise awareness of the disease and support those affected.”
