Inspire Catering Raises £31,000 as Fife owner runs marathon for daughter

David Pease, 52, one of the owners of contract catering company Inspire Catering completed the London marathon on Sunday and has raised over £31,000 for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF).

David chose to run for MRF as meningitis is an illness that his family have been personally affected by. David’s daughter Victoria suffered from meningitis when she was 18 years old. Thanks to the wonderful care she received she made a full recovery. There is however still much to be done in the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis both here in the UK and around the world.

What began as a personal challenge for David soon became a companywide effort from Inspire Catering employees to raise funds for MRF. Teams in Inspire Catering’s operating sites throughout Scotland have been inspired to take on their own fundraising challenges, ranging from bake sales and raffles to a race night and even a 24 hour walk!

The biggest initiative has been Inspire Catering’s inaugural Shine Ball held at Sir Ian Wood House in Aberdeen on Saturday 4 March. The ball was a huge success with an amazing £25,000 being raised. This fantastic total was raised through a combination of ticket sales, donations and the incredible generosity of the guests at the auction on the night.

The ball’s success would not have been possible without the efforts of the staff at Inspire Catering. In the months leading up to the ball, their chefs were invited to compete in a ‘Great British Menu style’ Inspire culinary competition. The winning five courses were served to guests on the night by a faultless service team. Entertainment was provided by the band Sahara and the evening was compered by Alex Fleming.

David said, “What a fantastic experience running the London marathon 2017 for MRF turned out to be! It was a really wonderful day and the support and encouragement, not only from my own personal cheer team of family and friends, but the public who lined the route, shouted our names and made all the runners ‘dig deep’ when their energy levels were low, was tremendous. It was also very special to meet the other MRF runners and the organising team after the race. My business partner, Lorna and I have been so impressed with the way in which everyone within Inspire Catering has supported this great charity and our fundraising efforts, which in turn has helped us raise such a fantastic amount of money. When you sign up to run a marathon they tell you “it’s going to hurt….but if it didn’t hurt more people would do it”……and you know what? It did hurt, but any discomfort and pain in my legs will pass quickly. The memories of the day, the money raised for a special charity that means a lot to me personally, the sense of achievement of having conquered the challenge, and the support provided to me by so many people will stay with me for a very long time.”

Mary Millar, Scotland Manager at MRF said, “We are so grateful to David, Lorna, and all of the employees at Inspire Catering for their efforts and enthusiasm to get behind David and support him with this challenge. Meningitis and septicaemia can strike quickly, sometimes killing in hours, and leaving some survivors with life-changing after effects. The money raised will enable us to fund vital scientific research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis, raise awareness of the disease and support those affected.”
