Ambassadors' Annual Race in Perth for their Daughter

Ambassadors' Annual Race in Perth for their Daughter

19 July 2017

On Sunday 16 July, 120 runners took part in the annual Alexis Rose 10K Trail Race at Moncrieffe Hill, Perth. The race is organised by MRF ambassadors, Alan and Ruth Glynn in memory of their daughter Alexis Rose who sadly died from meningitis aged 19 months in February 2011.

The Alexis Rose Trial Race is certainly not for the faint hearted, a hilly 10km course with challenging, mixed terrain but the runners keep coming back year on year to take on what has been described by some as Scotland’s toughest 10k. The event was a great success and does a huge amount to raise vital awareness of meningitis and its symptoms.

The race was well supported by the local community with runners from local running groups, refreshments provided by David Pease of Inspire Catering, an army of volunteer marshals who made sure no runners went astray and the Woodland Trust who have supported the event every year.

The race was proudly sponsored by Lincoln-based medal and event supplies specialists Running Imp who designed and produced the competitor’s medals. Running Imp have kindly chosen the Alexis Rose 10K Trail Race and MRF as their charity of the year for 2017 and will be donating 1p from every standard medal sold to the charity.

Mary Millar, Scotland Manager at Meningitis Research Foundation, said “We are extremely grateful to Alan and Ruth and all of Team Alexis Rose for all of their hard work and effort in organising such a brilliant race. Meningitis and septicaemia are deadly diseases which can strike without warning, sometimes killing in hours, and leaving survivors with life-changing after effects. As a charity we rely on the generosity and support of the local community to sustain our vital work into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia and support to those affected.”
