The Foundation's fundraising team in Northern Ireland is happy to help organise and promote your fundraising events across the country.

If you would like advice about how to get started with an event of your own, to support us in one of the events listed below, or want to make use of our local knowledge, let us know and we'll be happy to help you out.

The charity funds research to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, and to improve survival rates and outcomes. The Foundation promotes education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and gives support to people affected.

5 May - Belfast City Marathon

In 2007, Belfast City Marathon raised £6,845 with 80 participants, a record for Northern Ireland office. With the option of marathon, team replay, walk or wheelchair and a fun run, not everyone needs to run 26 miles.

26 May - Newry City Marathon, Half Marathon and Fun Run

2 June - Dublin Women's Mini Marathon (10K)

18 June - Lisburn City Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run

4 October - Scrabo Tower Abseil, Newtownards

Could you scale the Tower for Meningitis Research Foundation? 

The 135ft high Scrabo Tower is one of Northern Ireland's best known landmarks.  Overlooking Strangford Lough and the whole of North Down, the Tower provides some of the finest views in the country.  The Foundation is looking for adrenalin junkies to abseil from the Tower on Saturday 4th October. Minimum sponsorship of £90 of which £65 comes directly to the Foundation.  Up for the challenge?

February 2009 - Kilimanjaro Trek

We're  looking for thrill seekers to take on the challenge of a lifetime, seeking participants to climb Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro!

At the base of this huge dormant volcano is a tropical rainforest, home to elephant, buffalo, antelope and monkeys, beyond this lies rock and ice zone as you approach the summit.
 
The 12-day trek departing in February 2009 is a great way to conquer the summit and raise money for a good cause. You will be travelling with an experienced Northern Ireland company who also offer local training weekends before you head off. 
 
The Foundation relies on your voluntary donations to fund its work in research, awareness and support for people affected by the diseases.  Your help could save a life.

28 February 2009 - G.I. Jane Ladies Challenge Event

Recruits fall in...........
 
The Foundation requires recruits to take part in the our first ever sponsored ladies challenge event in Northern Ireland.
 
Do you have what it takes to be crowned 'G I JANE 2009'?
 
The aim is to compete against fellow recruits in a series of physical challenges including:

  • Drill
  • Running
  • Climbing
  • Tyre course
  • Shooting
  • Zip line/Abseil        
  • Full details TBC

You will be put through your paces in a military style drill, we will accept no prisoners!
 
'Meningitis Boot Camp' awaits 'You' 

  • Army attire and camouflage provided

Re-Cycle for Re-Search

Fundraising Officer Emma Collins

Fundraising Officer Emma Collins is calling upon you to recycle your old mobile phones.  Each reusable mobile phone recycled is worth an average of £6 to Meningitis Research Foundation. 

To date Meningitis Research Foundation have raised a fantastic £1,287 through this fundraising initiative and would encourage all members of the public and workplaces to get on board by contacting Emma on 9032 1283, emma@meningitis-ni.org  for freepost envelopes.


Special occasion coming up?

Show your wedding party how much you care through a gift to charity. Couples are opting to donate 'favour' money directly to the Foundation and indicate the donation on guest cards placed on the tables or provide their guests with one of our Marvin Badges.

Instead of birthday or anniversary presents ask friends and family to make a small donation to the Foundation.  What your donation could pay for:

£1 - 100 Symptoms cards
£5 - 1 School or university pack
£10 - 1 hour of in-depth support
£25 - 1 hour of a typical research project
£100 - 200 information packs for GP surgeries and health Professionals
£250 - Funding for our 24 hour helpline for half a day

Volunteering in Northern Ireland

There simply is no way we could exist without the dedication of our amazing volunteers! Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your generous and enthusiastic hard work.

If you would like to get involved we have many opportunities in your local community.  You could place collection boxes, Marvin badges in local shops or help with special events.  

Volunteers can provide much needed support at our events and collections across Northern Ireland, and we would appreciate even an hour of your time when we are in your area.
