Hi, I’m Kayleigh and I’m MRF’s first intern. I’ve been working at MRF for about two months now, assisting the communications department in all things media related.
When I first started the internship I was in my final year of studies at UWE doing an English and English Literature degree, but with the end of my degree fast approaching I began looking towards gaining experience in the real world.
I’ve always been interested in Journalism and PR as potential career options, so when I saw the advert for an internship at MRF I jumped at the chance for the opportunity of first hand experience in a Communications Office. I come into the office one day a week, and initially started analysing the amount of coverage we get in the press in terms of where it appears and details of the content. This helps to determine which strategies are successful so that we can utilise them again. I have also been given the chance to write my own press release to send out to the media, which I really enjoyed. In doing this I learnt how to write a good press release and how to distribute it to different media outlets.
Working at MRF has helped me confirm that PR is definitely the path I want to follow, I’ve loved working here and learning about the business from professionals who are at the top of their game. The office is always fun and busy, which makes working here all the more enjoyable. MRF have been really flexible which has made it easy to fit working around my studies and around my part time job as a waitress.
I have learnt that MRF does not only help thousands of victims and survivors of meningitis it can also help you gain experience in the real world, so if you fancy interning at MRF I highly recommend getting in touch. Interning here has opened my career options and given me essential experience but it has also been highly rewarding to work for such a meaningful organisation. MRF are working with the careers advisory services at Bristol University and UWE.
