Just to let you know a little about what I do at MRF. I'm the befriender coordinator who works as part of the helpline team at head office - a far cry from the bed pans and medicine rounds in my days as a registered ward nurse!
I've been at MRF for six years.
The befriending programme is aimed at bringing people together over the telephone who have a similar experience to one another. It is really helpful for people to chat to one another and share their stories.
Most people contact the service through the helpline and are then matched as closely as possible to one of the over 135 trained befrienders that are available. In most cases just talking through their experiences with someone who understands is really helpful and many relationships do go on to develop into lasting friendships, which is great.
If you are a member of the charity and are interested in becoming a trained befriender please contact me via
www.meningitis.org/helping-you/befriending.
If you or your family have experienced meningitis and you're not a member but would like to be, contact our membership team for a chat. Membership is free and you'll receive benefits like invites to
Members Events, our tri-annual magazine
Microscope, email newsletters and exclusive
insights into our
research programme.
If you have been affected by these diseases and would like to speak to one of our trained befrienders for support, contact the helpline on 080 8800 3344
