Well Marvin and I finished the Great South Run. Slower and harder than I had expected despite the training. The heat inside Marvin built up from about 5 miles and pretty much reduced to a crawl for a couple of miles before i picked up and then hit the seafront and the headwind. Despite drinking 2 litres during the run, I've lost 2KG but that will not last long.
However, an amazing experience. The support from the crowds was tremendous and the other members of the Meningitis team support as they passed really helped. I can't remember a better cup of tea than the one I had when I got back to the tent.
Marvin was introduced to hundreds of people before the race and loads of kids wanted to shake his hand. He was interviewed for a local paper and appeared on the TV news. Lots of 'symptom' cards handed out so hopefully awareness was raised and not just my heartrate...
Marvin will be missed around the local lanes but I'm looking forward to being able to see and breathe the next time I run.
