Thurs 6.08.09 - Ran on Wednesday instead of cross training, so tonight I can have a beverage with Jenny, Alison, and Robbie. As this was the last day Jenny and Alison worked together! .
Friday 7.8.09 - Run 3 miles...oh and I tried the remedy I found online for stitches and wrote about in Blog #3 and it actually worked! Who knew...the seasoned runners did.
Saturdays 8.8.09 - Cross train, which meant walking all over Edinburgh in search of quick birthday gift for my mother. Ended up buying yarn, not in line with the prerequisite of the gift at all! lol Anyway I have her xmas gift sorted. Well planned anyway.
Sunday 9.8.09 - we ran 5 miles! from Dean Village crawling up Leith Walk, past Stockbridge colonies northwest to The Shore in Leith (suburb of Edinburgh). Then we cut right to head south along the busy Leith Walk with a fly ending at London Road. (By fly I mean the route was technically, no, actually, downhill and so I was running much faster with no extra effort. A psychological boost I will take! )
Monday 10.8.09 - Cross train of yoga. Very stiff ...especially when instructor sits on your back. eeee.
Tuesday 11.8.09 - Unbelievably hard run 4 miles from home, south down Lothian Road, east though Meadows and to the Pleasance area and back. From my knees to my ankles it felt like steel rods. I am a bionic woman. Very strange! My dad who used to run marathons all the time had warned me about getting shin splints, so I'm doing some really good stretching after runs from now. Or perhaps this is just the plateau that everyone reaches???
Wednesday 12.8.09 - Considering yesterday's run I've chosen to cross train again and, yes, again it's yoga! Maybe I should be cross training for the cross train? he he.
Thursday 13.8.09 - Ran 4 miles this time we ran along the canal from home to Fountainbridge to Harrison Park and back. Ok the run was pretty hard, but the route was flat which was a good change. I had never been along the canal and it was amazing! Just a little bit past our old office actually there is Harrison Park and there was a whole set up of kids learning to kayak and people relaxing by the canal. Sweet area.
Another thing/issue/pet peeve/obvservation/curiosity that has arisen from running: cyclists.... Sorry give me a second to crawl onto my soap box....Right. Now I will preface with that I used to cycle all over myself using the bike as my main form of transport in Dublin and all that. I absolutely promote the use! There's just some etiquette that is needed and lacking. You know I am running on trails that they use too. And it would be nice if they could USE THEIR BELLS or my preferred cry of " On Your Left/Right/Front/Underneath! " It's driving me mad when they sneak up behind you, racing by with out warning. Not to mention it is totally unsafe! So I always say a big " thank you " when the courtesy is given. I know I'm not alone here, surely I know cyclists get frusterated with us. So Peds and Cyclists, let's work together. Runners, walkers, crawlers, hoppers, can we be a little more aware and draw to one side when cyclists are coming at us and cyclists can you please give us Peds a warning so I don't have to jump in the canal to avoid you (yum). Thank you....and leaping off soap box.
Oh! I got my number from the Great North Run! Hmm probably should sort some accommodation for the event aye?
Right ...upcoming events...it's my birthday this weekend! Also I'll be finding out how to train and enjoy festival time in Edinburgh at the same time...quite a challenge....
Thanks for reading.
