The BUPA Great North Run is MRF's biggest single event with nearly 200 runners taking on the challenge of the 13.1 mile route through Newcastle. This year joining our team of runners is MRF's very own Caitlan Dula who works as Admin Officer in our Edinburgh office.
The 2009 race will be taking place on 20 September, over the next few months Caitlan will be blogging about how her fundraising and training is going.
If you're taking part in a fundraising event and would like to write a few blog posts about how it's all going get in touch by emailing ianb@meningitis.org. Entries are now closed for the Great North Run but there are plenty of other events to take part in, for more details visit our Getting Involved section
And so over to Caitlan....
Monday 13-July-09: Well I should start training seriously now with the run being two months away and so on. eep.
I guess I wouldn't call myself a runner. At university, (gulp) 5-9 years ago, I used to run regularly because it was free exercise, and once accomplished 7 miles (!), but honestly found it hard on my body and decided to stick to walking a lot instead. So I'm a pretty keen hiker and am borderline obsessed with ashtanga yoga and so I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to accomplish a 1/2 marathon with a bit of training. Right?
Friday 17-July-09: How typical, on Tues and Wed I stayed in bed as I had a bad head cold, but really I'm just thankful it wasn't swine flu! No running for me. Last night tho I went to yoga and found my strength to be good so I thought I could start running this weekend right? Well wouldn't you know it, later that night I cut out a huge chunk of skin on the sole of my left foot from a screw sticking up in my house. Not pretty.
This running thing is not coinciding with my life this week at all! Maybe I'll focus on getting sponsorship money while bottom of foot heals. Justgiving site can't be too dangerous....
Onwards to week two...
