BUPA Great Manchester Run 2010

As the Great Manchester Run has grown into one of the largest 10k races in the world with over 35,000 runners, our team has also has also grown. This year we were delighted to have our largest team yet, with over 100 runners hitting the streets of Manchester and raising thousands of pounds for our work.

We got to the charity village in Manchester Central bright and early to set up our stand and ready ourselves for the arrival of our runners. We had a good spread of post race drinks and snacks ranging from healthy fruit, to the not so healthy (but very popular) chocolates and crisps!

We were pleased to be able to offer our runners much needed leg massages after the race with our volunteer sports masseuse, Steve. Before our runners arrived at the stall, he had the privilege of meeting the current 10k world record holder, Haile Gebreselassi, wishing him good luck before he set of to win the race! Steve defiantly worked the equivalent a 10k run (and more!) as he kneaded and pummelled the calves and hamstrings of our runners for many hours throughout the day – Thank you Steve!

It was fantastic to meet our runners and volunteers on the day and say thank you for taking on the challenge of the Great Manchester Run to raise much needed funds for our work fighting meningitis and septicaemia. Everyone had their own reason for running for us and it was good to be able to meet so many of you and get to know you more.

It was a great day, and saw everyone achieving what they set out for that morning, be it a personal best or getting to the end of the race. This was the first of many runs in our calendar of events so if you fancy donning some trainers and raising money for us please see the running page on our website for future races.

Thank you again to each of our runners and volunteers for making the Great Manchester Run a fantastic success.
