My daughter had viral meningitis at 9 weeks of age. Now, at 7, we see her performing extraordinarily in math and science, but struggling with reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing to topic (main idea and details). As an elementary teacher myself, I saw early on that she was not progressing in reading and writing as she should when compared to her achievement in the hard sciences.
